What is Covered & What is Not Covered?
Covered in Group Personal Accident Insurance
- Accidental Death: If an insured person dies as a direct result of an accident, a lump-sum payment is made to the designated beneficiary or the insured person’s family.
- Accidental Permanent Disability: This coverage provides financial compensation if the insured person becomes permanently disabled due to an accident. The extent of disability and the corresponding benefits can vary based on the policy.
- Accidental Temporary Disability: In the event of temporary disability resulting from an accident, the policy may provide regular payments to cover loss of income during the disability period.
- Medical Expenses: Group personal accident insurance may cover medical expenses related to injuries sustained in an accident. This can include hospitalization costs, surgeries, doctor’s fees, and rehabilitation expenses.
- Accidental Dismemberment: Some policies offer additional coverage for specific injuries, such as the loss of limbs (e.g., loss of a hand or foot) or the loss of sight, speech, or hearing due to an accident.

Not Covered in Group Personal Accident Insurance
- Non-Accidental Injuries or Illnesses: Injuries or illnesses that are not the result of accidents, such as illnesses, medical conditions, or injuries caused by illness (e.g., infections), are generally not covered.
- Self-Inflicted Injuries: Injuries intentionally caused by the insured person, including self-harm or suicide attempts, are typically excluded.
- War and Terrorism: Injuries sustained during acts of war, terrorism, or participation in military conflicts are often excluded from coverage.
- Engaging in Hazardous Activities: Accidents that occur while the insured person is engaged in hazardous activities or extreme sports that are not specifically covered by the policy may be excluded.
- Under the Influence: Injuries sustained while the insured person is under the influence of drugs or alcohol beyond legal limits may not be covered.
- Participation in Criminal Activities: Injuries resulting from criminal activities, illegal acts, or participation in riots or civil disturbances are usually excluded.
- Motor Racing and Aviation: Some policies exclude injuries sustained while participating in motor racing or aviation activities unless additional coverage is purchased.
- Pre-Existing Conditions: Injuries related to pre-existing medical conditions may not be covered unless specified otherwise in the policy.
- Injuries from Non-Accidental Falls: Falls that are not the result of accidents, such as slips or trips without external force, may not be covered.
